Abingdon is an attractive market town on the River Thames, 13kms south of Oxford. It is situated on the A415 between Witney and Dorchester and has the benefit of being adjacent to the A34 trunk road, linking it with the M4 and M40 motorways. There are excellent fast bus services to Oxford and nearby railway stations at Didcot, Culham and Radley. Located in the beautiful Vale of the White Horse region of South Oxfordshire, Abingdon is a historic town with many splendid old buildings and picturesque bridges over the Thames. Visitors can enjoy attractive riverside walks and a large park with outdoor swimming and boating facilities. There are also excellent sports facilities at the White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre. Abingdon has an annual fair and is also one of the few towns in the UK to have its own annual air display - the popular Abingdon Air & Country Show which takes place every May. It has an excellent variety of shops and supermarkets. Abingdon is conveniently close to several major scientific employers the UKAEA at Culham (including the Joint European Torus (JET) fusion research project), Harwell Laboratory, the STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and the new Diamond Light Source synchrotron. The town has its own business park and science park, and is very close to Milton Park also.
