There is something magical about walking into a bookshop and being surrounded by shelves of books. This is something that we are experiencing less and less with the development of online bookshops. We are lucky in Oxfordshire to have such a great selection of independent bookshops to visit, in a number of beautiful locations. If you are coming to Oxford for a holiday or work then we recommend the following:
The Woodstock Bookshop, Woodstock
The Blenheim Triathon takes place over the weekend of 8th and 9th of June and is now the 2nd largest in the UK. Set in the stunning grounds of Blenheim Palace, this popular swim-bike-run event winds around the Blenheim Estate, although hopefully the competitors won't be doing much sightseeing!
Weekly Home is delighted to have taken on a new holiday cottage in the village of Bladon in Oxfordshire. Home Farm Cottage is a recently refurbished former farmhouse, located on the edge of the Blenheim Estate.
We are delighted to announce that we have two new short let properties in Oxford. The Plain, a lovely three storey townhouse in East Oxford and Dorchester Court, a fantastic two bedroom apartment in Summertown.
We have been scouring the Oxfordshire area for you this week to bring you our Weekly Home favourite and have found the perfect place to visit for fashion and art lovers.
At Weekly Home we are always on the lookout for great places in Oxford to recommend to our short let and holiday rental customers.

Yesterday Managing Director of Weekly Home, Kelvin Fowler, featured on BBC Oxford’s afternoon show with Sybil Ruscoe. Kelvin was invited to be BBC Oxford's property expert talking about the holiday rental and short let market in Oxfordshire.
We are very excited to announce that five of our properties have been given a Quality in Tourism award, including Brookhill Cottage and
The weather is getting colder in the UK and at Weekly Home we are looking for ways to stay warm. One of our favourite ways of keeping warm is enjoying a good filling hot meal. The traditional British pie is a good option for this and we know just the place to go in Oxford to get a great pie, Pieminister in the Covered Market.
One of the reasons why Oxford is so famous and such a magical place to visit is that it holds great historical significance. After only a short time in the city centre you will feel that this is a city steeped in history. The “dreaming spires” allow you to drift back in time to days gone by. A time when many famous authors were studying and sharing ideas in Oxford including the likes of J.R. R Tolkien and C.S. Lewis.

We have a beautiful new Cotswold holiday cottage available in the picturesque town of Woodstock. The front of our Brown’s Lane holiday cottage looks like a scene from a picture postcard and the inside oozes charm, character and style.

If you are staying in one of our short let apartments or holiday cottages and looking for something to do in Oxford, one of our favourites is the University of Oxfords Botanic Gardens. The gardens are very close to a lot of our central Oxford properties and the perfect place to spend an afternoon.
If you are in Oxford staying in one of our short let apartments or holiday cottages our recommendation for the weekend is the Oxford University Museum of Natural History. Rain has been predicted for this weekend, so we are recommending an indoor activity.
Queen Elizabeth II has been on the throne for 60 years and this weekend the UK is celebrating her Diamond Jubilee and enjoying a long weekend*. This is the second Diamond Jubilee the UK has seen. The last one was Queen Victoria’s in 1897 so this is a once in a lifetime celebration! If you are staying in a Weekly Home short let property in Oxford these are just a few of the events that are happening in the area.
If you're staying in one of our central Oxford short lets, we recommend a picnic on the canal bank in Christ Church meadow. Christ Church, one of the largest of Oxford’s colleges, is considered by many to be the most beautiful. At one end of the meadow, at St Aldates, can be found Alice’s Shop, notable for its inclusion in Carrols Wonderland Adventures.
If you are staying in one of our Oxford short let apartments or holiday rentals one of our favourite things to do is to spend the day in East Oxford. The area where Iffley Road meets Magdalen Road is a very vibrant neighbourhood that has lovely little shops, restaurants, cafés and pubs. We recommend the following places:
At Weekly Home we really enjoy an evening of eating and drinking on the Cowley Road.
One of the best places to spend an afternoon in Oxford according to the Weekly Home staff is Modern Art Oxford. As the weather in Oxford hasn’t been great over the last month we thought that we should recommend something that is inside.
Our offices and one of our self-catering holiday cottages, Brookhill Cottage, is located in Woodstock and we know what a lovely place it is to spend some time.
If you are in Oxford staying in one of our short let apartments or holiday cottages our recommendation for the weekend is the Folk Weekend, taking place 20th- 22nd April 2012.
We love nothing better than a lovely cup of coffee at Weekly Home. One of our favourite coffee shops in the Oxford area is Combibos Coffee in Gloucester Green.
We love Combibos Coffee because it is a great place to go and relax: take your newspaper, your laptop or just go and people watch. They have free wi-fi for customers so you can also go and do some work or do some studying.
The Rhodes Scholarships are prestigious postgraduate awards given to exceptional students from around the globe. The scholars get to come and study at the University of Oxford. Rhodes Scholars may study any postgradute degree offered by the University.
Established in the will of Cecil John Rhodes an English born South African businessman. The first scholars came to Oxford in 1903 making The Rhodes scholarship the oldest international scholarship program in the world and one of the most prestigious.

At Weekly Home we love the East Oxford Farmers' Market. The market takes place every Saturday from 10am-1pm at Oxford Primary School - behind Tesco off Cowley Road. The market sells local produce such as bread, eggs, vegetables, cheese, meats, jewellery, clothing and secondhand books.
The Oxford Jazz festival returns to the city this Saturday (1st April) and runs over the Easter weekend until the 7th April.
VisitEngland and Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, are encouraging Britons to stay on home soil for their holidays this year. What better place to go than Oxfordshire? Oxford city is the perfect balance of the ancient and the modern and the county itself is stunningly beautiful.
Oxfordshire is full of historic significance starting with the city itself with the world renowned Oxford University.
