Shopping in the best bookshops, Oxfordshire

There is something magical about walking into a bookshop and being surrounded by shelves of books. This is something that we are experiencing less and less with the development of online bookshops. We are lucky in Oxfordshire to have such a great selection of independent bookshops to visit, in a number of beautiful locations. If you are coming to Oxford for a holiday or work then we recommend the following:

The Woodstock Bookshop, Woodstock

The Weekly Home office is in Woodstock and right in the heart of the town is The Woodstock Bookshop. The owner of the shop, Rachel, lovingly started the shop from scratch five years ago. Rachel has always worked in bookshops so she has a wonderful amount of knowledge to share with her customers. They also run great talks by writers, visit the website to find out more.

Mostly Books, Abingdon

Abingdon is a very pretty Oxfordshire town to visit, it is right on the Thames and there are some lovely walks. If you are visiting don’t forget to drop into Mostly Books on Stert Street. If you are stuck for something to read at Mostly Books they offer to pick out 2 or 3 books that they think will suit you, with no obligation to buy. Perfect to find some holiday reading material.

Madhatter bookshop, Burford

A trip to Oxfordshire is not complete without a trip to the Cotswolds. Burford is a small, pretty, medieval town in the Cotswolds and a great place to visit to explore, visit the tea shops and have a scout around the independent shop, including the Madhatter Bookshop. This quirky little shop is half book shop, half hat shop and they say that they will find any book you want and deliver by the next day.

If this has inspired you to take a trip to Oxfordshire, why don’t you check out the great selection of short let and holiday accommodation that we have on offer. Or give the Weekly Home office a call +44 (0)1993 811711.
