Oxfordshire is one of England's most beautiful counties. To the north and west lies the world-famous Cotswolds area of rolling hills and picturesque villages, to the east are the stunning Chiltern Hills, and to the south lie the chalk North Wessex Downs. Rivers such as the Thames, the Windrush and the Evenlode wind through all parts of Oxfordshire, adding to its distinctive character. It is the most rural county in the South East region with over 50% of people in Oxfordshire living in small towns and villages. Its charming and historic market towns and the architectural splendour of Oxford city make Oxfordshire a popular tourist destination and a highly sought-after film and TV location.

It would not be impossible to list all the places in Oxfordshire worth visiting, but obviously the city of Oxford ranks very high, as does the charming town of Henley in the south-east of the county, famous for the Royal Henley Regatta, one of the finest traditional English spectacles, with boats and marquees along the River Thames and everyone dressed in their finery. The Cotswold town of Woodstock will be enjoyed by all visitors and is home to one of the greatest palaces in the world, Blenheim Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
